A backflow preventer is the device that stops contaminated water from being siphoned back into the public drinking supply. When pressure drops, whether from a water main break, heavy irrigation draw, or a hydrant opening, water can reverse direction and pull pesticides, chemicals, or worse back into clean lines.
Because those assemblies are the only thing standing between your property and a cross-contamination event, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection requires every one to be tested annually by a certified tester. Florida DEP requires testing once every 12 months for each assembly. Some counties or higher-hazard facilities require more frequent testing. We track whatever schedule applies to your specific property and remind you before it’s due.
A failed assembly isn’t a crisis. In most cases we can rebuild or replace the failed component on the spot and re-test the same visit, so you leave compliant in one trip. If a full replacement is needed, we’ll quote it before doing the work.
Usually not. A single assembly test takes under 30 minutes, and for most configurations water service to the building isn’t interrupted. If a shutoff is unavoidable, we’ll coordinate timing with you in advance.
