What It Is

Why the test is required, and why it matters.

A backflow preventer is the device that stops contaminated water from being siphoned back into the public drinking supply. When pressure drops, whether from a water main break, heavy irrigation draw, or a hydrant opening, water can reverse direction and pull pesticides, chemicals, or worse back into clean lines.

Because those assemblies are the only thing standing between your property and a cross-contamination event, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection requires every one to be tested annually by a certified tester. Miss the deadline and the county can issue notices, fines, or in some cases shut off water service.

Mallard takes that whole obligation off your plate: we track your due dates, schedule the visit, run the test, and file the paperwork with your utility so you stay compliant without thinking about it.

30min

Typical time to test a single assembly. Most properties are in and out the same morning.

48hr

Average time from test completion to a certified report landing with your county utility.

How It Works

Four steps, one visit, zero follow-up.

From the moment your due date hits our calendar to the report sitting in the county’s system, here’s the whole process.

STEP 01

We Schedule

We track your annual due date and reach out to book a visit that works around your tenants, hours, and access.

STEP 02

We Test

Our certified tester checks each assembly against DEP standards. Under 30 minutes apiece, no water shutoff for tenants in most cases.

STEP 03

We Fix If Needed

Failed a check valve? We repair or replace on the spot when we can and re-test the same visit, so you don’t pay for a second trip.

STEP 04

We File

The certified report goes to your county utility within 48 hours, typically via SwiftComply, BSI, or direct submission. You get a copy.

Who It's For

If you've got an assembly, you've got a deadline.

Annual testing applies to almost every commercial and many residential properties across our service area. These are the ones we handle most.

Property Managers

One scheduled visit, every assembly across the portfolio tested and filed. The backflow notices stop landing on your desk.

HOAs & Communities

Irrigation, pool fills, clubhouse, and fire lines all need annual certification. We do the whole community on one schedule.

Restaurants & Food Service

Health-code-mandated testing for grease traps, ice machines, soda lines, and main service. Scheduled around your hours.

Medical & Dental

Sterilizers, dental units, and lab faucets are high-hazard cross-connections that require strict annual testing.

Commercial & Industrial

From a single main to fifty cross-connections, we map your assemblies and keep every one compliant.

Homeowners & Irrigation

Got a county notice on your home irrigation? We test residential too. Same certified work, smaller invoice.

The Mallard Difference

The filing is the part everyone else forgets.

Plenty of testers will run the gauge and hand you a slip. The compliance only counts when that result is filed with the county. That’s exactly where most properties fall out of compliance.

We file every certified test directly with your utility within 48 hours through whatever system they use, and we keep a copy for you. Pass or fail, the record is handled.

Common Questions

What people ask about annual testing.

Florida DEP requires testing once every 12 months for each assembly. Some counties or higher-hazard facilities require more frequent testing. We track whatever schedule applies to your specific property and remind you before it’s due.

A failed assembly isn’t a crisis. In most cases we can rebuild or replace the failed component on the spot and re-test the same visit, so you leave compliant in one trip. If a full replacement is needed, we’ll quote it before doing the work.

Usually not. A single assembly test takes under 30 minutes, and for most configurations water service to the building isn’t interrupted. If a shutoff is unavoidable, we’ll coordinate timing with you in advance.

Yes, and that’s the whole point. We submit the certified results directly to your county utility through SwiftComply, BSI Online, or direct submission, typically within 48 hours, and send you a copy for your records.

That’s our specialty. Send us your property list and we’ll map every assembly, put them all on one recurring annual schedule, and consolidate the testing and reporting under a single vendor relationship.
